Goal: |
Increase the Diversity of Speakers, Moderators, and Debates Themselves |
How: |
My plan for debate next year is structured around having diverse topics and styles of debates. Choosing a varying array of topics is essential to making conventions fresh and exciting. I also want to seek diversity of moderators and speakers. This means choosing students from a variety of schools and regions to accurately represent JSA’s student body. I’d like to open up debate suggestions to all of NorCal. If delegates have ideas about what debates they want to see at the next convention, they should be able to submit them and have them be considered for use.
Next year year, I also want the Debate department to work with Publicity to release weekly debate resolutions on the NorCal Instagram. It would be the job of the Debate agent to come up with the topic, and the responsibility of the Publicity department to post them. |
Why: |
Having a diverse body of speakers and moderators is so important when making sure conventions are exciting and enjoyable. Not only will this policy ensure that every school feels well represented at conventions, but it would also help diversify the resolutions that we get to debate, and the arguments for them. Additionally, by releasing weekly debate resolutions, we can help Chapter Presidents to keep delegates engaged by always having debates ready for them to use.
