Goal: |
Foster new ideas and encourage collaboration |
How: |
The Expansion department plays one of the most important roles in NorCal: reaching out to and recruiting people to start JSA chapters. While Expansion has been doing a great job this year, the department needs new and innovative ways to reach out to people, not just more members. I want to return Expansion deputies to regional distinctions and, preferably, have deputies working in the region they are from. That way, we would have deputies from the Central Valley working to expand and develop CVR, and so on for the other regions. Deputies who work in the same region they are from are more likely to know what is best for the region and have more insights about the schools in the region. Additionally, I'd like to have two deputies for each region, and two deputies assigned to expand in Utah and Nevada. Having two deputies for each region/ state encourages a collaborative effort to expand while also keeping the size of the department at a manageable level. At CabCon next year, I want to have the Expansion department brainstorm at least 50 different ideas and strategies for reaching out to potential contacts so that they always have resources for reaching out to new contacts. I want Expansion deputies to work closely with CIA agents so deputies can take advantage of chapter presidents as a contact reference, and both can work collaboratively to start and maintain chapters. By making a few key changes to the department, we can continue to increase the size and diversity of NorCal.

Why: |
The Expansion department has the most potential to influence the inclusivity and diversity of NorCal as a whole. Enforcing regional distinctions for deputies creates a concentrated effort to expand in a certain area. Deputies can target can target certain areas with more idealogical, socioeconomic, and racial diversity to increase the representation and inclusivity of minority groups in JSA. Promoting collaboration with CIA strengthens the expansion effort and encourages compromise within both departments. Returning to regional distinctions rather than city or county distinctions ensures we cover the entire state in our effort. Regions give deputies a starting point for contacting people and a territory they know is their own, rather than leaving some cities or counties without a deputy. I also want to encourage new and creative ideas and strategies for the Expansion department so that we can widen our horizon of contacts. There are a lot of good ideas out there, and I want to be sure all are heard and utilized. A stronger, more innovative Expansion department creates a stronger, more inclusive NorCal.
