Goal: |
Maintain Consistency and Increase Content |
How: |
The Publicity department serves as an important resource for JSAers, and I want to be sure we utilize it to its full potential. Overall, I want to increase the frequency and variety of posts on the Instagram. I want the Instagram to work with Debate and post weekly resolutions that chapters can use. Posting at least every other day about upcoming conventions, chaptercons, and other JSA news would increase engagement and interest about JSA. In terms of variety of content, I would love to continue with the debate in the comments posts, while also utilizing polls and other features of Instagram stories. If delegates have anything they would like to see on the Instagram, I want to be sure we hear their voices. I also want to increase awareness about the NorthStar, which is the newsletter of NorCal JSA. Sending the NorthStar out monthly and including Summer School promos, information about the next convention, and “Humans of JSA” interviews would be a useful resource that Expansion could send to school admin to promote JSA and spark interest.
This year as Convention Coordinator, I have worked closely with the Director of Technology in order to move the responsibility of creating and managing the JSApp to the Director of Technology. Next year, I plan to make that switch official, and the Director of Technology will create the app, and be responsible for getting it out in time (a week in advance), and updating it throughout the convention weekends. In order to increase the inclusivity and accessibility of NorCal, I plan on introducing a new cabinet position: the Director of Outreach. This position, called the ombudsperson in other states, is a cabinet position that I believe would greatly benefit NorCal as it has been a beneficial resource in other states. In the other JSA states, this cabinet position creates surveys at the end of conventions to collect feedback. In NorCal, the Director of Outreach would serve as a voice for delegates who feel as though they don’t have one in JSA. They would create surveys and google forms either bi-weekly or tri-weekly to send out through publicity to the NorCal Instagram, the Facebook group, or through the Chapter Internal Affairs Department to collect feedback from everyone about how they think JSA can be improved. At conventions, the Director of Outreach would facilitate feedback and idea flow from delegates either in written suggestions or conversations via thought talks. JSA’s summer programs are an integral part of the organization. Summer School not only provides a meaningful and educational experience, but also raises money for our scholarship fund. As such, it is crucial that the promotion of Summer School is a priority next year. I want summer school alumni to be more involved in promoting the programs. The Director of Summer School Promotion could conduct interviews with alumni, either written accounts posted in the NorthStar (NorCal’s newsletter) or in video format to be posted on the website or on NorCal’s Instagram. I also want to get video footage from students at the Summer Schools during this summer. We could use this footage for promo videos, with topics like “A day in the life of a JSA Summer School Student” or “Why you should attend Summer School at Princeton”. |
Why: |
The Publicity department inherently increases the accessibility of NorCal and the new cabinet position, the Director of Outreach, would be essential to increasing the inclusivity of NorCal as well. By hearing from new perspectives rather than the usual voices of cabinet members and chapter presidents, we create a NorCal that is an amazing and incredible experience for everyone. This position would be an invaluable asset to NorCal and would help alleviate the elitist stigma of cabinet, while also providing vital information for improvements to NorCal. Having a position specifically dedicated to the task of listening to and implementing ideas from the voices of all JSAers will undoubtedly improve the JSA experience of each and every delegate.
Increasing the variety and frequency of posts ensures that delegates stay engaged with the organization on a weekly basis. By utilizing the full potential of the NorCal JSA Instagram account, we can strengthen people's engagement with and interest in the organization. |
