Compromise, inclusivity, and strength. These are the ideas that my platform is centered around, and that I plan to uphold as Governor of Northern California JSA.

Compromise |
Compromise is essential to the function and success of cabinet. A strong group of leaders is successful because they are communicative, open minded, and are able to have strong opinions, while also respecting and listening their peers. I pride myself on my ability to hear all perspectives and bring them together to create effective solutions. I would consider myself a team player, and, from working directly with two of the other directors this year, I understand how important it is to communicate and be honest with the people you’re working with. With this in mind, I place value on kindness and tolerance in all of my efforts— especially regarding leadership and working with others. I believe that a leader is strong and dedicated, but, most of all, is compassionate and willing to listen and compromise with their peers. In order to hear all perspectives and find collective solutions that reflect the diverse opinions JSA as a whole, I am introducing a new cabinet position, the Director of Outreach (see my ideas for publicity for more info) who will be in charge of collecting the ideas of delegates not on cabinet so that all JSAers know that their voices are heard and valued.

Inclusivity |
The surest way to make NorCal a more inclusive state is to provide opportunity. My plan for next year includes providing as much opportunity and encouragement to delegates from underrepresented regions to apply, especially to the Convention Department. I believe that being directly involved in planning the conventions is the most effective way to interact with and impact NorCal delegates. We would utilize social media, emailing, and even texting to encourage chapters and students to apply. In order to strengthen representation from all regions, I want Expansion deputies and CIA agents to work in their own regions. By assigning deputies and agents to their chapter’s regions, we would have delegates from traditionally underrepresented regions doing work to strengthen and expand their own region. One of the best ways to make NorCal a more inclusive state is to create a welcoming environment that values opinions both inside and outside of cabinet. A strong leader is one who listens to and values the ideas of every delegate, and as Governor, I plan to reach out to delegates and chapters individually about certain issues and policies so that they are given opportunities to use their voices instead of having to seek them out.

Strength |
One of the most important responsibilities of the Governor is building a foundation for the next year. I plan to do this by continuing and further developing the New Leaders convention and striving to have at least two delegates from every chapter attend. I would also make efforts to have more underclassmen serve on year round cabinet, mid-year cabinet, and Winter State cabinet, as these are great ways to get involved while also creating a strong base of underclassmen to ensure that JSA has competent and experienced leaders in the years to come. As Governor, I would require weekly calls and weekly reports for every department, because a communicative cabinet is a strong cabinet. I would also encourage each department to meet up at conventions to build and strengthen their sense of department community.
